Cancer Australia has released evidence-based information and statistics to inform our understanding of early-onset cancers.
Cancer Australia is aware of the emerging issue of increasing incidence of cancers, diagnosed in people aged 20-49 years, which is commonly referred to as ‘early-onset' cancer.
The incidence of various cancers including colorectal, breast, thyroid, endometrial, kidney, multiple myeloma, pancreas, and prostate cancers has been rising in adults under 50 years, with incidence greatest in developed countries such as Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK and Canada.
If you are under 50 and concerned about your cancer risk or symptoms, you are not alone. The most important message is not to ignore any symptoms and to discuss any questions that you have with your GP.
Cancer Australia is supporting new research to deliver better care and earlier detection for younger adults. Learn more about early onset-cancer awareness, statistics and support, and the new Cancer Australia Research Initiative (CARI).
