Menopause may cause bones to weaken and break more easily. This is called osteoporosis.

You may be able to prevent osteoporosis by:

  • getting your daily recommended amounts of calcium and vitamin D
  • engaging in regular weight-bearing exercise
  • avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol.
