Resources for people with cancer

Cancer Australia is committed to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to provide relevant information about cancer awareness, early detection and treatment. We have developed a range of resources to provide culturally appropriate and targeted information to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by cancer and their families. All resources have been developed in consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations.

Our Lungs, Our Mob Community Education Resource

This resource has been designed to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners to conduct an Our Lungs, Our Mob workshop for community members. The workshop aims to increase awareness of the symptoms of lung cancer and the benefits of early diagnosis. This resource has all the neccessary tools to organise and conduct an Our Lungs, Our Mob workshop. This includes the following, which are provided electronically on a USB: presenter's notes, a powerpoint presentation, workshop posters and invitation, activity cards and evaluation forms. A DVD with the personal stories about lung cancer is also included.

Providing information and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with lung cancer (DVD)

This is a combination of two DVDs that aim to get people looking out for the symptoms of lung cancer.   Let’s yarn about lung cancer provides information from health professionals as well as stories form people who live with risks or have experienced possible symptoms of lung cancer.  In Archie Roach – Surviving lung cancer, Archie shares his personal story of the fears and challenges he overcome following a lung cancer diagnosis.  The DVDs were developed by Hume Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (Hume RICs) in collaboration with the Lung Foundation Australia and with support from Cancer Australia.
