Influencing best practice in breast cancer

Cancer Australia, the Government’s national cancer control agency, aims to reduce the impact of cancer, address disparities and improve outcomes for people affected by cancer, by leading and coordinating national, evidence-based interventions across the continuum of care.

In line with Cancer Australia’s Strategic Plan 2014-2019, the Cancer Australia Statement – Influencing best practice in breast cancer has been developed to improve cancer outcomes and inform effective and sustainable cancer care.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast

Cancer Australia’s 2017 Pink Ribbon Breakfast was held on Tuesday 3rd October. The Breakfast was hosted by our long-standing and generous Principal Supporter, the Macquarie Group Foundation.

At the Pink Ribbon Breakfast, Cancer Australia released "Lots to Live For" - a new breast awareness video designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to share with family and friends on social media.

"Lots to Live For" features NITV’s Marngrook Footy Show presenter Leila Gurruwiwi, and had been produced to put vital knowledge about the importance of breast awareness and early detection of breast cancer in the hands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and communities.

Speakers included Ann Weldon, Elder from Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, Jacinta Elston, Associate Dean College of Medicine and Dentistry James Cook University and Sandra Miller, a breast cancer survivor. The Hon. Dr David Gillespie MP and Dr Helen Zorbas, CEO of Cancer Australia also spoke.

The Master of Ceremonies on the day was Natalie Ahmat, presenter, producer and journalist with NITV.

Special live performances by Leah Flanagan and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.
