FUNDING FOR CANCER CLINICAL TRIALS
The Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme is a funding program to support research that reduces the impact of cancer on the community and improves outcomes for people affected by cancer. Cancer Australia has established the scheme to partner with other organisations that fund cancer research to:
- better coordinate funding of priority-driven cancer research,
- foster collaboration between cancer researchers to build Australia’s cancer research capacity, and
- foster consumer participation in cancer research, from design to implementation.
Research grants for industry-independent cancer clinical trials will be administered through the Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme. Please see here for more information.

REGIONAL MULTI-SITE CLINICAL TRIALS CAPACITY BUILDING NETWORK GROUP
Applications are now closed.
As a part of the Boost Cancer Research measure, Cancer Australia will pilot the establishment of a Regional Multi-site Clinical Trials Capacity Building Network Group to expand recruitment to cancer clinical trials conducted by Australia’s multi-site, collaborative national cancer clinical trials groups into regional areas.
In the 12 month pilot phase, Cancer Australia will award up to five Clinical Trials Site Support Grants to five separate regional hospitals/ centres. The five successful centres will form the Regional Multi-site Clinical Trials Capacity Building Network Group.
Each grant will provide funds for a clinical trials support position (which may be a clinical trials study nurse, data manager, trials co-ordinator or equivalent) to provide the person support necessary to recruit patients to, and support the conduct of nominated multi-site, collaborative national cancer clinical trials group clinical trials within regional Australia.
Concurrent with the establishment of the Regional Multi-site Clinical Trials Capacity Building Network Group, Cancer Australia will also fund a National Regional Co-ordinating Secretariat. The National Regional Co-ordinating Secretariat will provide central liaison, services and staff support for all sites involved in the Regional Multi-site Clinical Trials Capacity Building Network Group and provide assistance in the coordination and implementation of nominated cancer clinical trial protocols at sites within the Regional Multi-site Clinical Trials Capacity Building Network Group.
