Overview

An initial priority for Cancer Australia is to conduct a review of national cancer control activity.

A consortium of national cancer control and public health organisations has been contracted following an open tender to complete the review and prepare a report to Cancer Australia. The members are:

  • The Cancer Council Australia (lead agency)
  • Cancer Institute NSW
  • Cancer Voices Australia
  • Clinical Oncological Society of Australia
  • Collaboration for Cancer Outcomes, Research & Evaluation (CCORE)
  • National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre
  • School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of NSW
  • Sydney Health Projects Group, The University of Sydney

The review will collate and review existing information (published and unpublished) about national cancer control activity in Australia to identify opportunities for building collaboration and capacity, and strengths, gaps and overlaps in activities and effort. The findings will help Cancer Australia and other stakeholders prioritise future cancer control activities.

The final report is due to Cancer Australia this year.

An audit of cancer research activity in Australia is being completed separately. This will inform Cancer Australia’s development of a national cancer research plan.

Cancer control plans and reports

Australia’s government and community cancer organisations have produced many plans to improve cancer control in Australia and reports about different initiatives, strategies and recommendations to reduce the impact of cancer.

In this section we list key plans and reports and provide links to the documents, or information about where to obtain copies wherever possible.
