Annual Report 2008-09
The primary purpose of the Annual Report is to provide Members of Parliament and Senators with a detailed description of Cancer Australia’s activities during 2008-09 against the performance targets presented in the 2008-09 Portfolio Budget Statement.
Cancer Australia was established as a statutory authority in 2006, to help reduce the impact of cancer on all Australians.
In our third year, we have continued to focus our efforts to deliver better outcomes for people affected by cancer. We have made substantial progress in a range of areas within Cancer Australia’s remit for leadership in cancer control, including further implementing our system reform approach. We have done this using Australian Government funds, invested in our programs and our organisation, to manage programs under the Australian Government’s National Cancer Plan, and added value in significant ways to the work of Australia’s cancer control community. Our most significant achievements in 2008-09 are highlighted in Section 1 of the report.
Our Vision
To reduce the impact of cancer on all Australians.
Our Role
Our role is to achieve better cancer outcomes through national leadership and to ensure that the spectrum of cancer care services throughout Australia is, where possible, based on scientific evidence and focused on the consumer.
