Consumer Information and Resources
The Centre aims to raise awareness about issues associated with gynaecological cancers, and improve the availability of quality information.
The Centre has collated a suite of consumer information resources on gynaecological cancers which provides quality and reliable information relating to gynaecological cancers in Australia.
The factsheets for each tumour stream have been structured according to the patient journey, including the following topics:
-
description of the tumour
-
prevention and risk factors
-
screening and early diagnosis
-
treatment and supportive care, including psychosocial, psychosexual and follow-up care
-
recurrence
-
management and support between and after periods of active treatment
-
palliative care
-
useful information, e.g. frequently asked questions.
Background
The suite of consumer information resources on gynaecological cancers was developed as a result of a comprehensive review of existing national and international information resources on gynaecological cancers written for consumers and health professionals. The review identified best practice resources already available to consumers and highlighted gaps in information. Where quality information already exists, direct links have been provided.
The Centre wishes to acknowledge the following organisations who generously granted permission for the use of their high quality material:
- Cancer Council NSW
- Cancer Council VIC
- Gynaecological Cancer Society
- National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre
- National Cancer Institute
- University of Pennsylvania’s online cancer resource OncoLink
