Overview

Women affected by gynaecological cancers need access to the best evidence-based treatment and quality support, irrespective of where they live.  Many women have limited access to appropriate services, particularly those living in rural and remote areas and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

The Centre is working to support cancer professionals and improve the accessibility of cancer services.  The aim is to support health professionals and ensure the best possible care is available to all Australians affected by gynaecological cancers now and in the future. 

We are focusing on practical tools, system changes, and professional development and support that will directly contribute to better care and support of women with gynaecological cancers, and their families and caregivers. 

These include:

• Improving the collection and use of cancer data
• Identifying priority areas for the development of clinical practice guidelines to help health professionals make decisions about the most appropriate treatment and care for people affected by gynaecological cancers
• Support for health professionals, particularly GPs
• A study to identify current referral practices for women who may have a gynaecological malignancy in order to identify opportunities for improvement
• Improving the coordination and delivery of gynaecological cancer services through the Gynaecological Cancers Workforce Initiative
