Improving Data
The need to improve cancer data in Australia has been widely acknowledged. There are gaps and inconsistencies in data and national data definitions that impact on our ability to evaluate and improve cancer control efforts and outcomes for people affected.
Cancer Australia has started developing a National Cancer Data Strategy to improve the collection and use of information about cancer diagnoses, treatment and outcomes. This information is essential for effective planning and evaluation of services provided to people affected by all types of cancer.
In addition, the Centre is developing advice about the information that should be collected about common gynaecological cancers (a minimum dataset) to enable better monitoring of the quality of treatment and care women receive and inform future service development.
