Cancer Australia provides advice to the Australian Government about all aspects of cancer control and all cancers.
'Cancer control' includes all actions taken to reduce the impact of cancer, on people affected by cancer and on the community. It includes every aspect of care, from prevention and early detection to curative treatment and palliative care, all underpinned by the best scientific evidence available.
Cancer control activities include public education, research, early diagnosis and screening, specific cancer therapy, and support and care (including palliative care) of people affected by cancer. Cancer control involves hospital and community health care providers and also a strong voluntary sector led by the Cancer Councils. More broadly, cancer control involves the behaviour and lifestyle of every person in the community.
Cancer Australia has conducted a review of national cancer control activity to help Cancer Australia and other stakeholders prioritise future cancer control activities.
