Cancer Australia invites applications for the 2012 round of the Supporting people with cancer (formerly Building Cancer Support Networks) Grant initiative.

The call for applications for the Supporting people with cancer Grant initiative opened on 14 February 2012 and will close at 2pm (AEDST) 10 April 2012. Successful grants will commence in June 2012.

World Cancer Day 2012: Together it is possible

Cancer is a disease that increasingly touches the lives of us all. One in two men and one in three women in Australia will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Globally, over 12.7 million people receive a cancer diagnosis each year, yet it is estimated that around one third of these cancers are potentially preventable.

The theme for World Cancer Day 2012 is 'Together it is possible’, which emphasises that cancer control efforts can be most effective...

While cancer incidence rates are increasing, it is estimated that around one third of cancer cases worldwide are potentially preventable.

This World Cancer Day, Cancer Australia is urging Australians to commit to some lifestyle changes to help reduce their risk of cancer. These include quitting smoking, being sun smart, maintaining a healthy diet, getting active and limiting alcohol intake.

With the theme, ‘Together it is possible’, World Cancer Day 2012 is focused on collaborative efforts to reduce the burden of cancer globally.

February, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, provides an opportunity for us all to focus on ovarian cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease.

Ovarian cancer is the 9th most common cancer diagnosed in Australia women, and the second most commonly diagnosed gynaecological cancer.

It is important that women are aware of the facts about ovarian cancer, the symptoms to look out for and what to do.

World Cancer Day takes place on 4 February each year with the aim of raising global awareness for a disease that causes millions of deaths each year, many of which are preventable.  

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and around 115,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with cancer this year in Australia.  While some risk factors are outside of our control, evidence shows that around one third of cancers are potentially preventable.

Cancer Australia would like to congratulate the successful grant applicants of the 2011 round of the Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS).

Thirty new cancer research projects will be funded through $9.35 million in grants being delivered by Cancer Australia’s PdCCRS.

The Australian Government, through Cancer Australia, will invest $4.64 million, with funding partners also contributing $4.71 million, to fund the successful grant applications.
