Call for PdCCRS grant applications 2012

Cancer Australia and its Funding Partners invite applications for the 2012 round of Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS) grants. The call for applications to the PdCCRS opened on 23 December 2011 and will close at 5pm (AEDT) 14 March 2012. Successful grants will commence in 2013.

Research priorities for the 2012 round of the Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS) were announced in November to encourage discussion, collaboration, and planning between researchers prior to the call for applications.

Project grants are offered in two categories: Priority-driven Standard Project Grants and Priority-driven Young Investigator Project Grants.

 

Priority-driven Standard Project Grants:

Funding Category A: Project grants of up to three years duration, with funding available up to $600,000 (GST-exclusive), with a maximum in any one year of $200,000 (GST-exclusive) will be offered by Cancer Australia with its funding partners:

  • Australian Rotary Health
  • beyondblue, the national depression and anxiety initiative
  • Cancer Council Australia
  • Cancer Council New South Wales
  • Leukaemia Foundation
  • National Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia.

All project grant applications ranging from 1 to 3 years within a budget ranging from $10,000 to $200,000 per annum will be considered by Cancer Australia and these Funding Partners.

These research projects must be:

  • Priority-driven (relate specifically to a research priority area specified by Cancer Australia or a funding partner).
  • Outcome/impact focused (projects will improve outcomes in cancer control and/or impact on populations with poorer outcomes within the community).
  • Translatable (approaches and methodologies will be provided to translate research findings to impact onclinical practice, policy and/ or further research in order to impact on cancer control in Australia).
  • Collaborative (projects are cross-disciplinary, national, multi-state, multi-institutional and/or key disciplines are part of the grant application).
  • Engage consumers (consumers are involved in the design and ongoing conduct of the research project).

 

Priority-driven Young Investigator Project Grants:

Funding Category B: Project grants of one year duration for up to $100,000 (GST-exclusive) will be offered by Cancer Australia and/ or  Cure Cancer Australia Foundation to support project grants by post-doctoral researchers with 1-3 years post-doctoral experience or 1-3 years post MBBS qualification, undertaking a one year research project into malignant disease.

Funding Category C: Project grants of up to 2 years duration for up to $200,000 (GST-exclusive), with a maximum in any one year of $100,000, will be offered by Cancer Australia and/ or  Cure Cancer Australia Foundation to support project grants by post-doctoral researchers with 4-7 years post-doctoral experience or 4-7 years post MBBS qualification, undertaking a 1-2 year/s research project into malignant disease.

Cure Cancer Australia Foundation wishes to fund innovative, high-achieving, early-career researchers, and will be assessing the Track Record and Publications of the Chief Investigator submitted as part of the NHMRC application process to determine eligibility for applications to Funding Categories B and C.

Funding Categories B and C cannot be used to provide a salary or other support for a young investigator as part of a larger PdCCRS project grant application

These research projects must demonstrate:

  • Alignment with a research priority area(relate specifically to a research priority area specified by Cancer Australia and/ or Cure Cancer Australia Foundation).
  • Track record of the applicant in regard to opportunity(list of all publications and patents and a description of the applicants role in the publications and patents, summary of research experience, other relevant experience, and academic qualifications and awards). 
  • Career development(career development objectives, and research environment in which the research will be undertaken)
  • Relevance of project to cancer control,and
  • Consumer involvement(involvement in identifying relevance, study design, or consumer engagement in the development of this project) .

All Category A, B and C  applications must relate to the research priority areas identified by Cancer Australia and/ or our Funding Partners.
